Bradford Washburn

Bradford and Barbara Washburn were explorers, photographers and cartographers.
They are famous for putting up new routes on many major Alaskan peaks and for pioneering the use of aerial photography to analyze mountains and to plan expeditions. They were also repsonsible for mapping the Mt Everest, the Denali and the Presidential Range.
The 1947 climb of Alaska’s ice-ribbed Deali made Barbara the first woman to summit North America’s highest peak. She passed away in 2014, a few weeks short of her 100th birthday.
